| Dear all,
I would like your advice.
Apart from one's strength and abilities, does changing a MTB's tyres to a sleeker kind improve speed?
Thanks.

| My own experience is that it does, especially for those slick tyres like 1.25" etc. Pros and cons. Speed is improved, but at the expense of comfort. | |

| Have used Panaracer Rimbo before. Quite durable! | |

| Ohhh yes, your speed will definitely improve! Slimmer tires = less contact with ground = less rolling resistance = less energy needed to pedal ! But if you change to really skinny tires, have to look out for grooves in the ground that otherwise 26x2.25 tires will roll over easily. | |

| Erhh....had some basic bike lessons from Stanley on the Sunday ride.... Apparently, speed may not increase significantly as changing to sleek tires also means ur wheel width is now shorter, means the same no. Of cycles u pedal will give u a shorter dist... | |

Makes sense! but depending on the PSI level, rolling resistance may decrease due to less surface contact on the road especially at higher PSI. And not forgetting slimmer tires are lighter, therefore taking less effort to roll. So its a give and take situation.. | |

| definitely improves speed. for me personally, changing from the stock 1.75" to 1.35 Kojaks allowed me to cruise 5km/h faster with the same amount of effort. you will notice the difference especially when going fast. | |

| on 'slimmer' wheels, u gotta watch out for potholes, etc. Ride becomes more bumpy too...but hey you're on a MTB, so still got some front shocks to absorb the impact?
Ride safe! | |
