PostSubject: Lovecyclingsg summary of activities and the next bound for 2012   Tue Nov 22, 2011 9:08 pm

To all LCSG riders and friends,
I will share on 1st jan 2012 8th Jan Sunday, @ Fort Canning Gallery, an overview what lovecyclingsg is about, a summary of what we have done(rides and events). I like have ur attendance and participation on making LCSG the coolest and most fun cycling group ever.

Ok, here is the tough bit. Pls think about the ideas and how u can also contribute/lead/champion/execute. As the group grows in size, we really need more folks to step up and lead. I already see this happening and now, I like you take sometime to think it through to help make this group activities sustainable.
If you feel you are ready and want to help - Pls send a person mail to myself, Francis chu, tah Ching Andy yap, George lim, boo, Clarence and Matt for consolidation. We will review them and contact u directly. The ideas will be shared also in the 2012 LCSG forum. Thanks for your help.

Sincerely Taiwoon

Before I started riding with LCSG (in Feb 2011), I was riding like twice a year or something. Cycling to me was just a recreation thing then. I met Taiwoon Dai Gor at a cycling trip to Bintan (almost didn't make it back) end of 2010 and he was sharing with me about LCSG and invited me to join him when I am free. As a full-time tennis coach, Sunday was usually a very busy day for me (good time to make some money). Thus, it was unlikely that I would join him on his Sunday rides. Then on one Sunday, when I didn't need to work (which was rare), I joined LCSG for the first time and we rode to Pulau Ubin with my boy. We (me and my son) really enjoyed that ride. After that ride, I told myself we have to join them again soon. It took me about 2 months to finally moved or dismissed all of my work on Sunday to other days. Starting from end of March, we started joining all LCSG Sunday rides without fail till today. And perhaps because of my loud voice and big frame, I have been appointed as one of the "Safety Marshals" for the rides, which I thoroughly enjoy doing by the way. It gives me a lot of satisfaction to see everyone enjoys the ride, being able to help out when there is a breakdown or a fall, etc. Thankfully, due to the effort of many of our seniors like Clarence, Zack, Patrick, KC, Taiwoon, Francis, TC, Boo and Andy (sorry can't name all), all of us can enjoy good rides, good food, good company and good photos! Now, my little girl, Tiffany joins us every Sunday too! I feel that my son has learnt alot more about cycling, as well as appreciating exercise, the nature, teamwork, road safety, friendships and looking out for each other while riding and I am proud of him. I am also very proud that LCSG has grown from less than 200 when I joined to almost 800 members now!!! Keep it up guys!!! We need all of you to make LCSG better, bigger and to make a difference in the cycling scene in Singapore!!! I LOVE LCSG!!!

Steven, I am very glad u joined us for the Sunday rides and that your family also enjoyed it. The group has grown alot and I will need all of your help, volunteering as Ride organisers, sweeps, safety and other ways u can think of to make it happen.
I am not trying to make LCSG the biggest group, but I want to make it the coolest cycling group with a heart. How? I guess it is just keeping our feet planted, dont lose sight of what is truly important. The friendships, the ride, fun and the food. Together, we can move mountains!

Hi Taiwoon,

Really glad that I am part of LCSG, I am very inspired by the dedication from the team. I will be keen to help contribute as Sweeper/Safety. On top of that, Paul, Derrick and I are in favor of conducting weekend training rides around northern SG (Mandai), we will coordinate w George so there won't be overlaps.

In the future, if there is any needs to do special events, mobile apps, or recee for new route, do include me. Learning along the way.

Cheers,
Aaron

Hi All,

Thanks Taiwoon for creating this subject for us to share and feeback. Kindly note that some practices we have done and just like to keep everyone inform of the awareness. So below is my take;

I’ve been participating weekly ride with LCSG since September this year, together with my wife(Cindy Tay). We really appreciate very much for the warm & kind approaches from everyone, especially on particular ride’s organiser & team with their tiredless effort which keep us motivated and be part of the entire course. Also not forgetting all our fellow like-minded kakis have been gradually progressing in term of rides, places, food, photos & etc., we also exchanged chats whatever under the sun and definitely cycling’s topic & strategies.

Been observing so far, I have come up with some ways to improve or can be done in a constructive way and hope it wont oblign
anyone here. I would like to suggest there should be warm up/down(at least 10mins/session) to prevent injuries and muscle aches before/after the ride. Secondly, it should be brief to riders to declare if they are not feeling well or suffering from any medical conditions before the ride. Thirdly, the safety/marshaller should take strong precautions if he/she should stop riders whereby busy traffic flow/intersection. Fortly, riders should aim for completing instead of competing against each other so that they are able to participate in a enjoyable manner. Last but not the least, in times of emergency,we should be able to receive first-aid assistance among our compatriots(trained).

Riders shall know the basic procedures well. For example, they should know the basic LCSG term & condition, attires & gear etc.. We must also secure the initial interest in the group and the bonding with each other at all time. In term of new routes, please donot get distracted especially speeding, cornering and down slopes,be foucs at times. Then we will be able to have a smooth and enjoyable ride.

I also suggest that more attractive programmes & training rides can be organise, i.e.similar to next month Pertapis visit,. Perhaps to old folks home,multi-religion area, associations, assorted clubs etc. Most of us are working class, for the training rides on weekday nites,is preferable to organise in area form, north, south, east, west & central region, whereby whoever feel free to join at their convinent workplace or home without hassle to the peak period.

The manner in which we join this group should depend on individual. He/she can either ride in a fun or competitive way depending on them. I think we should also develop procedures that support the rides to make it more meaningful. These procedures can also help attract more people, be it friends, relatives, family & others. I agreed with Taiwoon view,is not the huge number of members in LCSG,relatively is the dedicated one that’s count.

Eventually, I have overlooked every rides we have done and more to come. By anticipating the year of 2012, i would like LCSG to have more ventures and succeed.

Finally, shall we celebrate annually of the closure of year-end to pamper ourselves?? like pot-luck session, BBQ, chalet/house gathering, Xmas/New year parties etc..

I regret for above long winded write-up,wish my feedbacks can serve one way or another even its not materialise. Hence I would like to render my help/assistance to LCSG if is require.

LONG LIVE LCSG!!!

Your truly

A little over a year with LCSG, I am still very proud to be part of this big family, and also one of the founding members of Team Panda. LCSG has given me a lot of determination to strive for the better in life, as I saw a lot of care and love in this group. People helping out one another in times of need, selfless contributions.

Having helped out for a while now, we have done quite a lot: 128km round island, KODH, treasure hunt, several PCN-opening participations, world water day, overseas trips, even bike clinics. Maybe in future, LCSG can do something more than just engage with our own members: collaborations with organization bodies to educate the public on cycling safety, cycling mindset in SG, charity, even promoting green environment. The coming Xmas celebration with the lovely kids at Pertapis is a good start. I know LCSG will continue to go a very long way, and I will still be around to help and support all the way!
