Bike Thefts Empty
PostSubject: Bike Thefts   Bike Thefts I_icon_minitimeWed Dec 07, 2011 11:00 pm

A friend of mine just posted in FB that his one year old Dahon, which was locked up securely, was stolen in broad daylight in a busy area opp kembangan mrt.

Through the same post, a few of his friend reflected they have also lost their bikes at the same area, and one was stolen years ago. It sounds like a hotspot for bike thefts.

I've lost a rather expensive bike given to me by my uncle years ago when I was still in school, so I know how that feels. The police don't do anything even if you report it because they didn't think there would be any chances of recovering it.

I'm wondering if there is any way which we can lobby the police to do a better job at stopping bike thefts, but on the other hand, bike owners also have to play a part by locking up their bikes properly and making sure they don't leave anything out for thieves to grab. Here's a video on locking bikes properly.

Also, please help each other and look out for any suspicious activities that seem like a bike is being stolen.

There is no lock that is unbreakable. if you lock your bike outside, make sure there is a better looking bike next to it. A Dahon looks very attractive you know?

Best way to avoid theft is to keep the bike at home! if not possible, ride an old bike that no one wants to steal.

That's one of the reason why I am owning a foldable bike and I don't use lock at all. I'll wheel my folded bike around even to the supermarket! Haha!

People would steal anything these days...even my old imitation crocs-like shoes were stolen.

As long as things work and it looks descent enuff, it is very much exposed to theft Sad

I lost a vintage shimano racer once too but that's very very very long ago Sad

That's why I never lock my bike and always keep it in my sight!
