PostSubject: Changing Tires of my new Marin MTB   Wed Dec 29, 2010 11:28 pm

Hello Everyone,

I very recently got into cycling and bought a Marin Bolinas Ridge 2011 Mountain Bike to start this sports after feeling the pain around my knees from jogging too much. So I am a complete newbie in bicycle parts and maintenance, please pardon me.

After bringing it for a ride, I realised the tires skids too much on water when I brake. Very dangerous IMO!

Can anyone recommend me where to look out for good and value for money tires? Are there coloured tyres? Think a green tire will match it's frame design well lol!

Picture of my new bike

Lastly, if anyone around Lavender/Jalan Besar area will like to go for a ride, please jio me! But don't expect me to ride so fast haha~ 9(8)73(2)1(8)7

Cheers!

Nicholas

Hi sorry I missed out this. I will be mainly on road.

Not into offroad at the moment as am still very green in cycling. Still have problems balancing on very narrow path lol!

You shoulg get Semi-sick or slick tyre...
Green tyres look horrible to me leh...But each to his own
I reccommend all black tyres as sometimes the colouring on the tyre will get dirty when raining.
You could try CST traveller slicks or maxxis detonator slicks if you are on a budget.

Thanks and Happy New Year!

Cheapest slicks are around 28++
But since your converting from offroad tyres, you will need to most likely
change your tubes as well which cost 7++ each.
Oh do also remember on what sizing of tyre you want to get
ETC. 1.50,1.75,1.25.
This is the "Fatness" of the tire you may say.
The lower the number the thinner it is=Less weight.
If you are a starter like you say you are...
I would recommend 1.50 to help you cope with the change.

A bit off topic...
You want to go for a ride sometime this week?

where do you normally cycle? on the pavement or rd?
slick tire is not gd for wet pavement but ok with rd.
cos slick tyre is for fast riding less traction..
maybe i'll try my detonator tire 1st then let u know.. silent
is very common to get skids on the wet pavement just brake early lightly & dont brake hard.

correct me if im wrong..
skid in wet pavement is FUN~ Twisted Evil

wow drifting on a bike? lol..
I agree with ahmad's (war_machine) suggestion. go with smooth tires for road and pavement. but all kinds of tires are bound to skid on a wet surface, only difference is to which degree. because you do not go offroad, there's no need for any sort of treads or knobs on your tires. because of this, smooth tires are lighter and so you can go faster on roads.
correct me if i'm wrong.. Smile
when I get my new hybrid i'm gonna change my tires too... ahmad you have to advise me on this also! Razz
