30 August 2014 PCN Appreciation Day

We are co-hossting PCN Appreciation Day with Nparks. Please joint us if you are free on 30th Aug 2014. Please register at NPARKS_PCN_friends@nparks.gov.sg. Please indicate you are going after you registered.

We would like to sound you out on our inaugural ‘PCN Appreciation Day’ with the support of Lovecycling Singapore, to be held on 30 August 2014 (Saturday) along the Northern Explorer Loop!

What is PCN Appreciation Day?
PCN Appreciation Day is an event where PCN users like you can enjoy the PCN you ride on and at the same time learn about the work that goes behind keeping our park connectors clean and safe.

In other words, get hands-on and care for the park connectors with us! We will be cycling along Mandai Park Connector and carrying out basic maintenance such as scrubbing of tracks, pruning overgrowth, etc.

Event Details
Date: 30 August 2014 (Saturday)
Time: 8.30am – 11.30am
Meeting Point: Lower Seletar Reservoir Park Event Lawn (see yellow star in map below)
What to bring: Your own bicycle, helmet and water (we will provide the tools of the trade)
Who can join: Anyone who is a PCN user – cycling enthusiast and amateurs* are all welcomed
Total distance cycled for activity: Group 1 cycles 12km; Group 2 cycles 6km (Groups will be assigned upon registration at meeting point)

*Do take note that some parts may be challenging for some, where there is a gradual long uphill along Mandai PC. Please gauge your cycling capability before signing up.

How to get there (with foldable bicycles): Alight at Khatib MRT, cross overhead bridge along Yishun Ave 2 and take bus no 39, 85, 851, 852, 854, 855, 857, 965 or 969 from bus stop (no. 59049). Alight at the bus stop after Yishun Ave 1, which is after Yishun Sports Hall (bus stop 59029). Follow signs to Event Lawn.

How to get there (by car/taxi): From SLE, exit onto Mandai Avenue and continue along Yishun Avenue 1. Make a U-turn and park at Lower Seletar Reservoir Park Car Park. Free parking is available but limited. Alternative paid parking is available in the housing estates on the opposite side of Yishun Avenue 1.

Programme:

8.30am – Meet at Lower Seletar Reservoir Park Event Lawn for registration [Bring your own bikes and helmets]

8.45am – Welcome speech and short briefing; participants will then be split into 2 groups (Group 1 cycles to the end of Mandai PC at Mandai Lake Road junction to start scrubbing while Group 2 starts from Lower Seletar Reservoir. Both groups will meet at end point [slip road to SLE] – See route map below for illustration)

9.00am – Group 1 leaves for some scrubbing action!

9.15am – Group 2 leaves for some scrubbing action!

10.40am – Gather at end point (middle of Mandai PC at slip road to SLE)

11.00am – Group photo and light refreshment

11.15am – Cycle back to Lower Seletar Reservoir Park

11.30am – End of PCN Appreciation Day

Registration details:
To register, please email NPARKS_PCN_friends@nparks.gov.sg with the following information:

1) Your full name (or child’s full name) and contact number
2) Age and gender
3) Full name of parent/guardian and contact number (for child participants 12 years and below only)
4) Next-of-kin full name, contact number and relationship (for emergency purposes)

Note: should your child (12 years old and below) be participating, please ensure that you or a guardian is present for the event as well. Do sign yourself up for the event too.

As there are limited places, please register early. Closing date of registration is 22 August (Friday) 1700hrs.
