26th June SafeCycling Clinic for LoveCycling group at Road Safety Park

I am glad to share with u that Steven Lim have kindly arranged with the traffic police for the road safety park to be open for us to practice the safety techniques. yeah!!! We will be using the shelter in the park to conduct the talk and the mini course to do some demonstrations, this should benefit the majority. The talk should be about 1 hour and will estimate about half an hour for Q&A, with another half and hour to 45 minutes for some demonstrations. This should be good for newbie riders who are not confident on the roads and riders who want to improve their road positioning in heavy traffic... Details below

Meeting location: East Coast Park Mac Donalds
Time and date: 26th June 2011, 0730 - We will ride along ECP first towards coastal and then turn back..

2 ) Be punctual. We wait for slow riders, not late-comers.
3 ) Ride will be canceled if heavy rain.
4 ) As rides are at night, its COMPULSORY to have lights, blinkers or light reflectors on your bike.
5 ) Bring your own spare tube or cab fare.
6 ) Wear a helmet / Proper covered shoes for your own safety.
7 ) Those joining the ride, pls comply to ALL LTA rules on cycling on public road during the ride.
8 ) Strictly cycle in a single file on public roads unless overtaking.
9 ) We reserve the rights to refuse any participation from any cyclist(s) at any point of time.
10 ) To instill and promote safety in cycling, we will not hesitate to "STRONGLY ADVISE" rider(s) who compromises safety on himself and/or the whole group during the ride.
11 ) We are just an informal group of cyclists, therefore none of us is liable or responsible for any accident or mishap that occurs to you during any of the rides we organise.
12 ) Always cycle with safety in mind at all times.

Totally want to ride inside the park because last time I was short (okay.. now still short) and they didn't allowed me to cycle or drive car so I had to be pedestrian!! So insulting can....

Hi Folks,

I am glad that we have the clearance from Traffic Police to use the Road Safety Park for the clinic and it is my pleasure to be able to share with you this clinic which is being put up jointly by Traffic Police and Safe Cycling Task Force.

In the clinic, we will share knowledge on Traffic Rules, the do's and don'ts, safety tips and safe practices. To illustrate better on the theories we share in the clinic, we will be using the mini circuit in the Road Safety Park to do some simple demonstrations. Apart from the rules and safe practices, having a correct mindset and attitude are also key to having a safe ride on the roads and this is something I strongly believe and advocate personally which I will also share in the clinic. Being a Pedestrian (44 years ago, erm.. no, should be 43 years ago, I only learn to walk about 1 year old), a Cyclist (since 1982), a Driver (since 1984), I will share with you the various experience I had being all three different road users and this should gives you a better picture of behaviours of different road users and to know what to expect and what is expected. Also, as a sweeper of all my leisure rides with friends and organised rides with a bigger group of 80 in Malaysia like the Charity Bike and Blade, I will share with you on some of the key points and behaviour about group riding.

I sincerely hope that you folks will be able to attend this clinic and benefit from it which will help you in having a safe and pleasant ride all the time. At SCTF, we advocate safe cycling and one of our objectives is to reduce the number of injuries and fatalities of cyclists on the roads through Education, Infrastructures and Legislation. Apart from working with relevant authorities on areas like improving infrastructures, education programme like this kind of clinic is an important tool to help cyclists to ride and behaviour better on the roads and thus achieving our objectives. It is only when more cyclists know and understand their role as a road user, ride and behave properly and safely that we will see less injuries or fatalities of cyclists on the roads and also we will be in a better position to tell other road users like motorists to recogise and respect cyclists as road users and give us that space, UNITE, we shall excel!
