| The ride has added more "can do, and taken away the cannot/maybe doubts". Felt great mentally and physically. Thanks again to all who made this happen, especially to the supportive women behind TW and hope to see momo joining our rides soon. | |

| Here’s my take on the ride experience with Metal Backside 2011. I won’t want to dwell into the distance but what really made the experience worthwhile is spending a Sunday with passionate people who enjoy riding bicycles. This is my first ride with LoveCyclingSg but it didn’t take long to fit in. Everyone was optimistic, friendly and full of cheers and so readily to share their power bars, power gels, deep heat rubs, 100+ drinks with new found acquaintances; offering help to riders whom are having cramps or bike problems. Generally, looking out and taking care of one another, who were seconds ago were strangers - These made the Iron Butt Ride truly pleasurable and tolerable. My deepest appreciation and gratitude to the good people of the organizing team; making stickers and badges – priceless; worth more than any Olympic medals, many times over. There aren’t many communal self-organized bike rides that are open to all in Singapore and this is really another gem and I do hope that this’ll continue for as long as possible. Totally no prejudice on finesse or bike - I love this!! I would also like to apologize if I don’t look friendly or if I don’t smile as much as I could; or I fart while riding in front of you; or my BO and bad breath made you miserable. Please do say hello at our next meet. Very much looking forward to getting to know all you in good time. | |

| I felt great after cycling round our little red dot. Started experiencing ligament pain after West Coast McD. It gets worst with every slope making it a pain to bend or fully straighten the knee. Was about to give up along Yishun slopes, thought of WTH I’m doing this event crossed my mind repeatedly. Glad to have Chan (guy in cube MTB) to pace me even when I have to push my bike. Special thanks to Mike for giving me some sain tan (pain killers), energy drinks and super hot deep heat, that kept me going to Punggol. Plus the chit chat with Francis and the cooling rain that take my mind away of the discomfort. Although I transformed from Lamb into a Tortoise, still glad to reach East Coast McD at 630pm. Clocked 122km including the short trip from home to mrt and to McD. So this is definitely been a great personal achievement, as max I cycled was <50km. So thank you to all organizers, TaiWoon, Zack (lead), Mary (sweeper) and all cycling buddies along the route for this crazy event. Ensuring everyone completed the trip safely. You guys rock! My butt is fine, so I do have an iron butt. Just don’t have iron legs to go with it. To reward myself for completing this event, will have to buy some new toys for my bike. My colleague who joined us from West Coast McD to Kanji left me a nice note and badge. | |

| Hi gentle people with IRON BUTTS , Something for you all to ponder upon : as you progressed along the 128 route , did any of you feel that at times you are " as-one-with-your-bike " working in harmony .. and felt that you were " in-the-zone " where mind & body is perfectly synchronised to the task ? .. if so , you've attained nirvana !! | |

I stop thinking after the 1km mark, or was it right after the 'Go' off ECP McD.I reckon it's best not to look towards the destination but live the moment while riding. Bike, breath, bladder and butt were in sync - ooommmm.

| I would like to thanks KC for his experienced advise on 100 plus + salt to further combat my worse enemy, leg cramps!! And also for the last leg super duper constant pace for me to catch up and reach ECP Mac. He is right about long distance cycling:(in my own words) if you speed very fast for this section and cannot continue the next then it is no point. Constant speed and not fastest speed that matters. Yes, KC is indeed a legend!!! | |

| Special thanks for my good buddy Matt! We can see all the efforts that you put in to ensure this ride is a success and your attendance have made this ride feels like old times for me(maybe not that old since I am referring to bike rally, lol) I am sure we will have more long distance cycling trips in the future! | |

From Steven Lim, he mentioned "leg cramp is due to lack of salt"... So i stole a few packs of salt Mcdonalds before the ride intending to add into 100+ if necessary... But in the end didn't use it

| I don't know what to say. Congratulation...more than that. Look back upon, I will never forget the 120KM trip on my 500RMB bike with Bob and such, including overcame the WuTong mountain along the way. I didn't get a badge for that. However, I will definitely treasure that experience forever. I guess the 128KM is the same for you. However slowly however painful, you made it happen. Someone may steal your badge but nobody can take away your memory of the g*d d**n cycling on 3rd July 2011. I should have thank you for bringing me to lovecycling. Thank you. Hope the pain of your joint leave you one day, since you keep regular cycling. May be your knee just need time to get used to it. - gcw wrote:

| I slapped my butt at the end of the ride "kong kong kong"...ahhh sweet sound of accomplishment.... First of all, thanks for having us. Not for a second that I felt like an outsider. Making the decision to postpone our Singapore trip to coincide with this ride was the best decision ever. I told myself, how often do I get to cycle around the island with equally passionate and crazy ppl (got this from reading your forum)? When I was cycling along Kranji Way with my painful back, I was doing 11kph. Francis and Steven (Goat) were riding with me. They were encouraging me and talking to me to distract me from my pain. You guys are beyond words. Thanks! At lunch and after 55km, I was not going to quit. Regardless, I will finish...with or without my back, then came Michael, my lifesaver. Without him, the rest of the way would have been a great torture and the Ironbutt event will be forever etched in my head for the wrong reasons. Michael, thanks for the deep massage and medications Thanks to Teo for the lift to Tampines and Andrew for taking care of our bikes and bags at the back of the Teo's truck. Thanks to the organising committee, the designer/s & sponsor/s of the stickers and buttons, leaders, sweepers and the titanium butts, esp Shareen and Patrick for sticking with us. Of course, Taiwoon....the shooting sweeper. Kudos to you guys! Thanks to all who came that day for the great fellowship, we sure did "we ride as team, eat as a team, suffer as a team, complete as a team" Not only do you have ironbutts, you have golden hearts too!!! | |

| I'm new to forums, that's why it's taken me this long to register, feel my way around and figure out how to find this related thread. I joined this forum for 1 reason - to express my gratitude (& check out rides that I can join in since I'm here). Here goes my Academy Award acceptance speech: I never got to thank Francis, who accompanied me during the beginning of the ride when I was trying hard to keep up with the Lambs in front. A gazillion thanks to Shareen, who was like my guardian angel, appearing out of nowhere when I first stopped, feeling a cramp coming on. She helped me massage different parts of my legs each time they cramped - four times within ~40km - a little after lunch until the barricaded new road, tailing me the whole time. I took oral rehydration salt with water when Shareen reminded me, then, my legs stopped cramping. Looks like my Tesco isotonic drink wasn't enough. The Deep Heat magically appeared each time it was needed - so many people offered along the way that I can't remember who, besides Beh (AdrianeLee?) and TW. Patrick, thanks for pacing me below 18kph. It must be difficult for someone who can fly to cycle so slowly... Steven Lim (Goat?) was always coming around to the back of the pack to keep our spirits up - thanks! Andy seemed to be everywhere, sometimes waiting in front to indicate a turn-off, sometimes cycling up quietly beside me from behind - thank you for keeping me company. Boo, thanks for hanging on to my bike when I was trying to fall off gracefully on cramped legs... A truckload of thanks to Uncle Teo, who went out of his way to drive Wey & me back to Tampines, before sending Andrew to Bedok & going home to Tampines, again! Many thanks to Andrew for giving us his comfortable seat in Uncle Teo's truck, and for taking care of our bikes & bags in the open back. Tai Woon, I don't know if I should thank you for all the "only 5 minutes more" and "there's good nasi lemak at the end of this road"... But your fairy tales always helped me get to the next point. Your spirit truly inspires me... I never once asked myself what I was doing there, because I chose to be there... And I discovered so many helpful, patient, passionate, selfless, tough and cheerful people in one place! I tried to remember all the people who helped me complete the 118km ride, but I'm sure I've left out some. It was hard to remember names or descriptions of people while I was telling my legs not to cramp. I'm sorry I didn't mention you - pls know that you are appreciated. I was so amazed to receive the registration pack in the morning - a ziplock bag containing the leaders' phone numbers, rider's emergency info slip and the Ironbutt sticker - many thanks to the people who designed, printed, cut, bought and bagged!!!! And the ass-hard-as-steel badge at the end - that was such a sweet gesture. I went in search of a challenging ride, and found thoughtfulness as well... I am in awe of the organisers and the contributors to this ride, for their generosity, and their dedication (towards toughening our butts)! Finally, I will get some sleep... | |

| Hueyming, to prevent cramps, drink from your isotonic drink bottle every half hour (regular sips). and include salt in your snacks in between. If you find your isotonic drink not salty enough, feel free to add some more salt. All this should do the trick. Just my 2 cents.. | |
