16th Sept 2012 - LCSG servicing workshop

Hi All,

Everyone owns a bike and some of you have more then one, many of us do not have any knowledge on the parts, its name and how it works. Well here is a your chance to learn more and understand how your bike works.

In this event you will be given an introduction to all the parts that is on your bike and also a hands-on workshop to basic maintenance like cleaning and lubricating the relevant parts and joints and of course tire changing.

Lead: Louis Lee and George Kee

Our specialist will conduct separate classes for different brands of bikes, teaching you basic do and don't. Please bring along the following items for this workshop:
1. Spare inner tubes for your bike size
2. A set of Alankeys or multi-tool kit
3. Adjustable spanner and size 10 & 15 spanner especially for Brompton owners
4. Small plier
5. Cross and Flat tip screw driver
6. Tire levels
7. Portable hand pump
8. Chain Breaker

Itinerary:

8am meeting at Eunos MRT for those riding and taking public transport
8.15am Short ride over to event location (settle down)
8.30am Theory and introduction to bicycle parts follow by Q & A
9am Split into different stations for practical lessons
11am end of workshop

We will meet at Eunos MRT, from there a short 5mins ride to location, for those who are driving you can park at Blk 1001 Eunos Ave 8 #01-14 Singapore 409496 open carpark.Meeting time: 8amDuration Est: 2-3hrsAfter the workshop we can ride to Eunos MRT or to Marine Parade Central for lunch (optional)

All are welcome, limit to 60 pax

1. Introduction to bicycle, its parts and their functionality
(many does not know what is what on a bike, especially the newer riders)

2. Basic bike checks before rides
A. Tyre pressure & tyre condition
B. Brakes working condition
C. Gear shift working condition
D. Joints and parts (properly tighten)
E. Detect malfunctions

3. Hands on tyre and tube changing
A. Changing of tyre and inner tube
B. Check for possible defects on tyre inner layer
C. Check rim tape and rim condition

4. Basic maintaince of bike
A. Cleaning and proper lubrication of parts
B. Checking for wear and tear on parts
C. Proper use of tools, lubricants and cleaning agent
