The last road safety briefing was conducted last year 26th June 2011. Since then, LCSG had grown in size, crossing 1900 members. No doubt not all the members are actively cycling on a daily or weekly basis, but knowledge on road and park behaviors is very important especially the PCNs with are very popular for cyclists like LCSG

Detail of briefing:1. Gather at Road Safety Park around 8am. Will start session by 8.30am, followed by a break around 10.45am There will be practical bike training, so pls bring ur bicycle.

Before u ride. Safety check.
1)Brake front, rear. Press and push if can work
2) Tyre pressure check>3) lights - front and back working?
3) Route - where are u going? Access the danger areas and brief ur friends accordingly. Are your friend comfortable on the route?
4) ID. Do u have ID tag so that pple can render aid to u?
What to bring on a ride
1) safety gear, gloves, Helmet.
2) If helmet - how to wear it correctly. What is too tight, what is too loose.
3) Hydration. Water bottle filled? 4) Rear mirror can help. Set it correctly
5) spares like tubes, handpump and patch kit. Learn how to use it.
Individual rider skill
1) Practise road signal correctly. Start off, check back and ride.
2) Stopping- Check back, "shout Stopping" and hand signal.
3) Slowing down signal
4) Stopping with both brakes.
5) Ride slowly and not wobble
6) Proper road positioning
7) gives ways to pedestrians, always
Able to ride in a stable manner, while checking behind over the shoulder
Group skill (break into 10, assign lead and sweep)1) Ride in a group and use the hand signals to indicate actions
2) Modulate speed and keep the group intergity
3) Correct road positioning in a group. Stagger formation. on front wheel aim rear wheel
4) Rotate roles so that every one can learn how to lead, route mark, sweep
Best practises sharing by riders
uncle KC: "whether riding individually or , in group .. practice looking back ( better still install rear view mirror ! ) before overtaking / changing direction & .. if you need to STOP for whatever reason shout-out & immediately move to the extreme left BEFORE coming to a stop .. & a sensitive matter .. during group rides .. full concentration on the ride / surrounds SAVE your chit-chatting till the next rest point !!"
