Hello everyone,
My name is Tim Kallenbach and I am a third year Human Geography bachelor student from the University of Amsterdam. Together with about 25 students and 8 experts I'll be visiting Singapore from the 20th till the 26th of January for a study/research trip mainly on sustainable development. Some of the research themes are themes like Green Infrastructure and Urban Resilience, Public Housing and Social Diversity. My research group is focussing on Transport Planning and Sustainable Mobility. Together with my colleague student our subgroup will focus on cycling in Singapore.
We noticed that even though Singapore would be a perfect environment for cycling in everyday use, still only 1% of the population is using the bicycle as a mode of transport. Keeping the need for sustainable transport systems in mind, our research focus lies in what can be the function or role of cycling to improve a sustainable transport system in Singapore. Are the people of Singapore willing to use a bike for everyday transport? And is there any existing policy on cycling(facilities) and bicycle lanes? Besides the infrastructural side of bicycle use we will also focus on the social acceptance and awareness of cycling.
In short I would really like to talk to cycling enthusiasts for a short interview and/or get information about the cycling culture in Singapore and what you think about the future of cycling in your country. The results of our (short) research will be presented on the University of Singapore on the 25th of January.
If you are willing to help me out and you have some spare time somewhere between the 20th and 25th of January please leave a message.
Thank you in advance,
Regards,
Tim Kallenbach
