PostSubject: 4th Sept - King of da' hill ride -- Come see that SG is not flat.....    Sun Jul 10, 2011 8:27 pm

Hello folks,
Like a challenge? Want to be a king/Queen of SG hills? Let's take them on.... I mean Mt Faber, Bukit Chandu, Kent ridge, NUS slopes followed by a zip to Tuas "hockey stick" and redoing the hills all over again.... Wahhh... siong and super scary huh? Yup!
This is not an easy ride, my friends and I have catered 1 month plus so u can train abit ... The slopes are our friends.. and u will have plenty on this ride! As per ironbutt, we go commando... that is ... bring ur own gels, water, first aid kit and kitchen sink! Very Happy
Oh BTW, we ride in lovecycling fashion, as a team. Eat, suffer, curse and complete as a team!

See the map.....

This is interesting, it's going to kill some legs... but it's a darn good training... unfortunately, won't be able to join you guys... will be climbing in Desaru instead doing the Charity Bike'n'Blade... What a Face

I done these two Bukit before (one after another)... it's no joke.. need a lot of leg muscles, stamina and determinations. Of course, i did it on a roadie, but I doubt it's going to be any easier on a foldie. My advice is for you guys to train seriously before trying to conquer the hills. Bukit Chandu is still ok as it is only a very short steep slope at the end when reaching the car park and there is less traffic on a Sunday. But Mount Faber will be an issue, I presume you all are going up from Pender Road, it's a narrow two way carriage way, and being a place of attractions, there will be coaches and cars going up and down the hill, so for those who have problems climbing and cannot maintain a proper climbing path may be dangerous. Do not follow to close during climbing as the person in front may stop suddenly due to fatigue or something and look out for the person in front and watch the condition of the person climbing. Overtake only when you know you are very safe to do so without crossing path with another cyclists or on coming cars. Stop if you have to, if there is a coach or car coming from behind. DO NOT climb in a zig-zag manner.

Coming down slopes, enjoy the down hill speed couple with the twist and turns, but be careful. Hold your handle bar firmly with fingers on brake levels ready to brake. Always squeeze the brake gently and not hard, enough to feel the brakes slowing you down and gradually harder if need be, never jam the brake hard. Know exactly which brakes (front or rear) that you are applying and always apply the rear first then follow by the front. There will be leaves and twigs on the floor, avoid rolling over them as they may cause you to skid. There may water underneath the leaves so when you go over (especially during turning) the leaves may "move" and cause you to skid.

Hope this helps, feel free to post here if you guys have anymore questions.

Have fun!

Cheers!!

Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy

Cheers !! This will definitely be a good and enjoyable muscle stretching Ride. .. kindly allow me to share an experience.

I am not aware how steep or fast the down are along the chosen routes ... be aware that the continuous applying of brakes on long stretch of down hills may caused the rims to heat up, especially small wheels like 16". Over heated rims and tires are dangerous. Preferable practice intermediate braking on long down hill stretch for slowing down. Just my 2 cents.

Have Fun and Enjoy the great Awesome Climbs.

Best regards / Bil
