Charity Bike 'n' Blade 2011 is set on 3rd & 4th September 2011. Please block your calendar NOW if you do not want to miss the "most talk about" charity event of the year.

This year the organiser has selected 2 beneficiaries, namely St Luke Hospital and Peacehaven Nursing Home. For more information on our beneficiaires, please visit: www.slh.org.sg and sg.salvationarmy.org

New routes are being planned for those seeking greater challenges and also for those who are enthusiastic but physically not too ready to go the full distance.

We are aiming higher in terms of fundraising target and will need to reach out to more sponsors and people to help achieve new goals. Charity BnB 2011's success hinges on you the riders and your network of supporters and we look forward to receiving your utmost support in the coming months.

We are looking out for designers to help revamp our jersey design to create a unique Charity BnB identity. Please call us if you or someone you know wants to take up this challenge.

FYI, for last few years, there is no Blade due to tedious logistic, only rides.

so this ride is in Malaysia, not Sg?

The ride has always been in Malaysia. This year's route mainly around Desaru area. No problem on support as there usually a few cars plying around with volunteers to hand out drinks and banana etc.
Main challenge is the distance and the heat. Unlike Singapore, Malaysia's road are not shaded by trees.
Should you give up or fail to finish within stipluated timeline, a coach will come along to 'sweep' you up
Sign up fast and raise the required fund of $1500 for charity to qualify for the ride as space are limited to about 100.

Good that it's not true..since I didn't think or hoped that that the event would be cancelled...i merely asked if it were true...

Hi Folks,

Charity Bike 'N' Blade is an annual fund raising event (except for the lapse in 2008) organised by a group of passionate cyclists as well as devoted fund raisers and community volunteers. Yes, you are right about the word "Blade" in the event title, there were folks on roller blades who did the same 320KM as the cyclists in the initial years but the organiser later drop the idea in the subsequent years due to some operation issues. I was part of the group which help to raise funds and rode the distance for the last two years which saw some 70 riders (2009) and about 90 riders (2010) riding the distance (320KM) over the two days event through the rolling hills and harsh weather Tg Belungkor Jetty (2009) and Kota Tinggi (2010) to Mersing (slightly after Mersing for 2010) and back. Apart from the riders, there were also some 20-30 volunteers whom support the event in various ways from admin, support vehicles, mechanic, logistics..etc. As echeng said, Malaysia roads are not shaded by tress so the riders were exposed to quite extreme weather conditions with either very hot sun or to endure the flesh pricking pain from heavy rain.

This year the event will raise funds for not one but two organisations, Peacehaven Nursery Home (run by Salvation Army) and St Luke's Hospital (ElderCare). Come 3rd and 4th September, we (should be about 90 riders) will go through the hills, the sun, the rain and the pain again, riding the extra miles for a good cause. I will be doing my 3rd one ( and volunteer as a sweeper too...) and many had done this numerous times since the start of this fund raising event but we all know we did something right and good for the community and the beneficiaries. The pain will go away in a day or two but the benefits to those in need will go a long way, which is why many are doing this tirelessly and courageously year after year.
