20th Nov. 2011 Balestier Historical Ride

Hi LCSG,
On June 2010, Francis, Tai Woon and I cycled Balestier area (pre LCSG) and passed by the Sun Yat Sen memorial hall but it was closed for renovation.

Now that its finally re-opened, come join me to visit this elegant building, this time inside.
Along the way, we'll get to smell freshly baked Loti (bread) by bakeries thats been around for as long as the place.

Route highlights: we'll start at Novena, Mount Pleasant (humongous Banyan Tree), Caldecot Hill (Mediacorp, moving to Mediapolis in 2015), peaceful MacRitchie Reservoir (walk along boardwalk if you've never been), Sun Yat Sen Memorial Hall, forgotten Shaw Bros Malay Studio, legendary Whampoa Dragon, Loti bakery (smell so good!), quaint old bird shop, pretty pre-war houses and yum yum eating at Whampoa Market before heading back to Novena.

Balestier area is congested and majority will be riding on quiet roads and a short PCN. A few unavoidable busy roads (Thomson Balestier) and some major junctions, some slooOooOpes along the way but we'll ride slow with stops for inexperienced road riders to smile and take in the sights.

Meet: Novena MRT Thomson road exit
Gather at open space behind bus/taxi stop.
Those driving free parking (Sunday) along Tan Tock Seng Link (top right of map below).

Hi! My first post. My wife and I (Poh Choo and Alvin Wong) would love to join the ride this coming Sunday. Do count us in. How long would the ride last? Gotta let my kids knows to look after themselves this weekend while we finally get to do things on our own. Looking forward to this Sunday. Thanks.
