| Came across a "Campaign for a Lane "cycling event. . Cost: 70 ringgit incl jersey, buffet lunch and drinks and sweeper support vehichle. Distance/route: 80km ride round island of ..........................Penang. Budget Airline fare to Penang is affordable. Besides taking part in the event and possibility of bringing back top of the line GIANT road bike in a lucky draw, it would be fun to tour Penang on a bike & EAT & EAT in a group.
Unfortunately I will be in langkawi and will only arrive Penang that evening.
"... Those who have problems completing before this cut off time (5 hrs) will have the option to board the sweeper trucks courtesy from City Council.....event is non competitive and all “finisher” will be entitled to the finisher’s medal at the finishing line. .. Lunch (buffet style) and drinks will be provided after the ride and while you are enjoying your lunch, the lucky draws will be conducted. The grand lucky draw will be a top of the line GIANT road bike worth at least 15k., Besides that, there will be hampers from POWER BAR, free subscriptions for a year from CYCLING MALAYSIA, a special prize from THULE (company specializing in bicycle carrier), CHIN AIK bicycle shops etc."

| Actually am thinking of this...
For those who drive (i suppose 2 foldies no problem), we can convoy to Penang... stay there maybe 3 days 2 nights and at the same time join this event...
Wow... it will be cool! | |

| A few of our Foldie Adventures Group buddies have already registered for this ride. Some have done it the previous year too.
Normally we travel to Penang by the KTM Train departing KL on Saturday 08:05hrs arriving Butterworth (Penang) at 14:55hrs ... checking into hotel for a night.
Returning back to KL on Sunday after the Ride by departing Butterworth (Penang) 23:00hrs arriving KL next day 06:50hrs
Train may be one of the good option of going to Penang ... choice of taking the night train sleeping berth or First Class cabin and almost sleep all the way, saving the daylight time.

Train may be one of the good option of going to Penang ... choice of taking the night train sleeping berth or First Class cabin and almost sleep all the way, saving the daylight time. Train travel is very slow and the station is in mainland butterworth. Has anybody travel back by coach from PEN before? If it is those double decker coach with individual video and almost fully reclining massage chairs & takes 8 to 9 hrs night travel, arriving singapore early morning around 6 am, it is quite comfortable. There is also some savings in the cost esp if the departure date falls on a weekend that budget airline charges a premium. Convenience of pickup in Penang in the city. Duration of 8 to 9 hrs travel may seem long compare to flying but if you take into consideration the time spent for pre boarding & after arrival for air travel, the total time maybe only a few hrs more than flying. it may not be much different. Check this site for more details on travelling by coach to and fro malaysia. http://www.easibook.com/booking/searchresult.aspx I am quite won over to take the coach for my return on 13th Sep..

| Mr Teo,
Driving up will be around 8 hours if we are "cruising" up north at speed of 120km/h - 130km/h. If you ask me, here goes my plan.
Day 1: Driving Up 5am - 6am: Meet up as early as possible so that we have more time to go shop shop... hehe 9am: Stop halfway for nice nice breakfast. 12pm: Have we passed KL? We gotta stop somewhere for lunch! 3pm: After all the start stop, we should be resting in the hotel. 4pm - 5pm: Shopping time!
Day 2: The ride I'm not sure where is it. But we will find the place and complete the 80km round island ride. Back to hotel to rest... and drive out to find nice food?
Day 3: Back to Singapore Check out Hotel as early as possible Another 8 hours again.... with stops for breaks and meals.
The way I look at it, this will be a 3 days 2 nights event. And since we are driving up for this distance, we should not rush and it will give us ample time to "cruise" slow. As for the toll charges, petrol etc. It should be shared among those in the vehicle. In order to communicate along the way, I have a pair of walkie talkie.
For my humble car, I can take up to 2 foldies in my boot (including mine). So that means, I can take one more passenger (not sure Marcus want to go, he can take his mum's MuP8). If he not going, then i can take one more passenger.
Let me know if anyone else going, then we try to finalise our decision by this week.
